A councillor has been sacked from Haringey’s cabinet for the second time in 18 months.
Cllr Zena Brabazon is no longer cabinet member for children, education and families, Haringey Council has confirmed.
Cllr Brabazon, who represents Harringay ward, was made cabinet member for civic services following local elections in 2018 but was sacked by council leader Cllr Joseph Ejiofor the following New Year’s Eve.
Months later, in May 2019, Cllr Brabazon returned to the council’s top table as cabinet member for children, education and families after she was re-elected to the position of deputy leader during the Haringey Labour Group’s annual general meeting.
The latest dismissal means Cllr Brabazon is no longer deputy council leader – although she remains deputy of the Labour Group.
Cllr Kaushika Amin – previously in charge of corporate and civic services – has been appointed as the new cabinet member for children, education and families.
A spokesperson for Haringey Council said: “We can confirm that Cllr Kaushika Amin has been appointed as cabinet member for children, education and families, taking over from Cllr Zena Brabazon.
“A new cabinet member for corporate and civic services will be appointed by the leader of the council shortly. The make-up of cabinet is a political decision.”
